Trend Watch: Welcome to the Jungle

With the new year comes exciting new trends and this one in particular has ‘hot and steamy’ written all over it! Despite the fact you may be huddled in a onesie with a hot cup of tea and the fact that it’s grey and miserable all over the UK at this time of year, take comfort in the fact that one of the new trends in interiors this year is ‘Jungle’ which is sure to warm you up.

Jungle Interiors

Now, I’ve always been a huge fan of animal prints and I know there are certainly many people out there that will immediately cringe at that statement but a little bit (and yes, moderation is KEY) in a room and suddenly, the space has a bit of spice and an unmistakeable edge.

With the Jungle Trend, there is that little nod to animal prints, yes, but oh it’s so much more. We’re talking bold, exotic botanicals, exaggerated patterns of palm and banana leaves and ferns and those vibrant greens mixing beautifully with warm woods and rattan. You can even bring a touch of sunshine by way of golds and warm metallics. It’s a stunning look, sure to warm up even the dullest winter day.

There’s a feeling of getting lost – oh yes, of wild abandon you might say – and so adopting this style in your own home is a brave but utterly satisfying move.

The look is fearless but there are ways to subtly incorporate it in your style as well if a full on hot house is not in the cards this year. A few large-leafed plants, whimsical animal lighting, a touch of that animal print and perhaps a seagrass rug or jute basket is really all it takes to get this trend heating up your interiors.

I’ve chosen some of my favourites in my buying guide to get the look in your own home.

I’ve already got the fiddle leaf fig and a few rattan chairs in my living room but I have my eye on a few seagrass baskets this year to bring a little more ‘jungle’ into my home. Is this a trend you’ll be adopting in 2015?
