Too many downlights

The kitchen has many areas in it that we need on a daily basis. Lighting over the cooker, the worktops and if you have a breakfast bar a place to eat. You need to be able to install the lights in the right places without putting them too close together or too far apart. Casting shadows is another issue so attention needs to be paid. Avoid a grid of down lights as it will destroy the style of the kitchen and make practical areas impossible to work in.

Knowing when enough is enough

A major problem of kitchen lighting is getting carried away. A spot light here an attractive pendant there, you need to be able to say “enough is enough”. The age old expression less is more couldn’t be more right in this instance. Think about the main areas of the kitchen and how they are going to be utilised day-to-day.

Not using enough circuits

You need to be able to create ‘zones’ within the kitchen so that you can seamlessly link spaces between each other. This helps give the kitchen its practicality and provide you with the necessary task light to perform jobs. If you don’t use enough circuits it will create a dull interior.

Not creating your own style

Giving each room in the home its own style makes it unique. Making sure that the colour and the quality of light is correct will enhance the interior even further. The lighting you install is designed to last a lifetime so make sure that its perfect for you and the family. Where you can try and use the highest quality fittings for your budget, it will be worth it in the long run.
